About Us
Music and Dance Society (MAD) first started in 1974 with contemporary dance before diversifying to include other dance genres. At present, it comprises 3 divisions, namely Modern, Hip-hop, and Bboy (or breakdance).

ELECTIONS!

HELLOHELLO. this is probably gonna be one of my last posts on this blog as MAD secretary. *sniffsniffs*

ANYWAY i'm here to update you juniors on MAD EXCO 08-09 ELECTIONS!!! :D
NEXT MONDAY (26/5) J1s be prepared to COME BACK TO SCHOOL at 9.30AM for a briefing on elections! it is on this day that you guys will choose which posts you'll be running for. you will be given 2 choices, but you can also choose to run for just one position.
details about this meeting will be released later when we manage to book the venue. :)

here is a list of the positions available in the exco, as well as a brief summary of their workscope:

president and vice-president:
-oversees the big picture of MAD's needs and problems
-overall in charge of discipline and welfare
-liase with other CCAs or external organisations for collaborations or public performances

treasurer:
-in charge of MAD funds, NOT ONLY for DanceNight, but for everyday things like instructor fees, equipment etc. etc.
-accounts to school and teachers what the funds are being used for
-reimburses, allocates funding amongst divisions

secretary:
-TAKES MINUTES.
-the link to all divisions: needs to keep in constant contact with each division to be updated on any problems being faced or any new needs that need to be taken care of.
-in charge of contacts, collating and updating the contacts of every MADder
-overall in charge of MADders' attendance
-in charge of maintaining blog, yahoo groups, MAD forums

division heads:
-in charge of choreography of the division items (does not necessarily have to choreo EVERYTHING himself/herself; can choose to delegate choreography to others!)
-leads warm-up and self-pracs (i.e. any self-pracs without instructors)
-main communicator with the division instructor
-makes important decisions for the division (probably with the instructor) e.g. which performances to take up etc.

**NOTE THAT DIVISION HEADS WILL BE REQUIRED TO COME UP WITH AT LEAST 1 MINUTE WORTH OF CHOREOGRAPHY TO SHOWCASE ON FRIDAY(30/5).

division assistant heads:
-collecting division funds
-attendance taking and maintainence
-individually chasing division members :P
-disseminating of information to members (i.e. maintaining good communication with members)
AND
in addition to all the admin work assistant heads have to take care of, next year, we are implementing an extra NEW role to these people! THE ROLE OF QUARTERMASTER/QUARTERMISTRESS.

this means to say that the division assistant heads will also be in charge of CLEANLINESS of practice venues! :D


**ALSO, PLEASE NOTE THAT ALL MADders running for exco are required to come up with a speech to address your fellow MADders during the elections process. it doesn't need to be terribly long, if you prefer, just a short, impactful one will do. mention whatever you'd like your MADders to hear or know about yourselves, e.g. why you are running for exco, what you can and will do for MAD, what problems you'll address etc etc.

NEXT FRIDAY (30/5) will be the ELECTIONS DAY. it will be a day of speeches, interviews, and showcasing of choreos, and YES, it WILL be a long day. in the event that it drags too late, we will require you guys to keep Saturday morning (31/5) FREE to finish your interview/showcase. sorry about that. :x

JUNIORS WHO WILL NOT BE IN SINGAPORE ON EITHER OF THESE DAYS, please please let your division heads know ASAP. preferably as soon as you read this. we will make the necessary arrangements for you guys as long as you still want to run for exco. :) DON'T WORRY you won't miss out just because you're flying somewhere! :D

so, as a gentle reminder, PLEASE REMEMBER TO DECIDE what you want to run for by MONDAY, and get your SPEECHES and CHOREOGRAPHY (for div head wannabes) READY by FRIDAY! i know it's quite a rush for you guys, BUT we believe you can do it!
