10th july performance updates.

hello modern guys!

here are the updates. basically, i've called mr. dan and confirmed the rehearsal dates. it would be 7th july 3-5 pm, 9th july 6-7 pm. and maybe 10th july 1-2 pm (this would only be confirmed after our first rehearsal, and if we have this rehearsal, most prob we get to miss lessons :D).

for the j2s, mr. dan and ms. chen would like it if you guys can perform!! cos there'll be quite alot of stuff to change if you guys can't make it :(. can yall tell me if you guys cant make it asap, so that i can get back to mr. dan? thanks so much.

and for the rehearsal dates, so far, i've only gotten information from hanzhi that she wont be able to make it for the 7th july rehearsal. should i just take it as the rest of the people can make it for the days? if not, please inform me ASAP. :)

practice timings would be confirmed later, but mr. dan would only be back on the 2nd of july i think (going to shanghai or sth). for now, just concentrate on blocks and try not to fail :)

jiayou mugging everyone! :D

Tapestry Info:

Click here for the official Tapestry blog for more details and stuff.

In regarding to the Tapestry T-shirt-

this is the design of the Tapestry t-shirt. Left image is the front of the t-shirt. Right image is the back of the t-shirt.

T-shirts are priced at 10 bucks, and the shirt colour is BROWN. Please pay for the shirt before the 30th of June :) If you do not pay either me, NicT or Bong (that's Yvonne if you didn't know), according to the organizers, no money, no shirt so please please pay :) Or I will chase you with stalkerish smses and whine until I make you cry XD

---

Anyway, important thingos regarding Tapestry too, but less of an admin thing and more notes of apologies and appreciation.

To the seniors, a big apology for not informing you guys before-hand about joining Tapestry. It was a lack of oversight on our part and we really would like to apologise for not even considering your previous experience and completely daoing common courtesy of informing the exco. Thank you so much for guiding and forgiving us after. :) We ♥ you guys very much and we treasure the lessons you've taught us.

To some issues about joining Tapestry, after hearing some feedback, we would like to clear up some things :) Because our idea for the auditions for Tapestry was to perform the Fac Dances, we were recruiting people based on faculty. Because people took a long time to confirm their joining, we didn't have a clear idea on the numbers and the boy-girl ratio (which is very important :))

To those we told that we did not have place for them, we would like to sincerely apologise for rejecting you and not clearly stating our reasons for doing so. If you are still extremely keen on joining Tapestry, you are welcome to approach either myself, NicT and Yvonne or message us about it, and we'll try to see if we can fit you in :)

For those in Tapestry, you guys are the best :) <3 <3 you guys muchos and thank you for putting so much effort in the hols to practice for the auditions even though there are approaching blocks. You guys made it happen, and even though we went through the inital disappointment, everything came through for us and with our luck, we got in :)) <3 Thanks for being such a great bunch :)

Study hard for blocks yeah :) I know we can do it :)

SYF performance on 10th July

hello modern dancers!

this is to inform you guys that there we will be performing on the 10th July at the Toa Payoh HDB Hub Auditorium. Its quite sudden, and we were just informed of it. Basically, we are invited to perform for some civil servants award presentation ceremony. We should be the closing item, and we are invited to perform our SYF piece.

tentatively, we set our rehearsal dates with the external organization as 7th July (sat) 3-5 pm and 9th July (Mon) 6-7 pm. however, we still have to confirm with Mr. Dan and see if he'll be free. we'll be holding practises after blocks too, so try to keep your days free (esp the rehearsal and performance days.) if there are any clashes, please tell either jiayee or me asap.

food and transport would be paid by the external organization. i've called kelvin, and he said that he's not very sure if the j2s are performing (and that i'll have to check with ms chen and mr dan).

the details i will be confirming with ms. chen tmr when she gets back from malaysia and will update you guys. for now, just try to keep your days free!

(omigod. my first time blogging on the mad blog :)

ok, meiling's post is still longer =x

HELLO M.A.D.!
surprise surprise (that i have access/that i'm blogging here etc.)
i just read and heard about m.a.d. exco elections and the massiveness of reactions by the juniors so i thought i'll just say something though it may seem redundant or extra but too bad, blogger grants me access =)

After reading meiling's tremendously long entry i thought: what exactly were the reactions and responses from meiling's batch last year after our Exco announced the election results? one thing for sure, all of them were genuinely surprised/shocked, as according to them, the results turned out to be rather different from what they had predicted. There was also some controversy due to a situation which our Exco did not know of at that point in time (um, current j2Exco i suppose you guys know what i'm talking about haha). Then i wondered again, was anyone's reaction bigger than what appeared on the surface? Was there strong objection that we did not know of? I'll leave that to rest, simply because from what i see today, i'm sure our Exco had made a good decision and we do not regret it.

Exco elections can produce unexpected, even shocking results. This is understandable because like what meiling has mentioned, consideration in all aspects are to be made and all kinds of circumstances or problems have to be forseen. It is not solely the evaluation of an individual. It is the mixing and matching of individuals with the aim of coming up with the best and most informidable combination. I'm not sure if the j2Exco thought of the points that meiling stated in her post after their elections last year but as we can see now, the considerations are similar for every Exco when it comes to selecting its successing committee. Hence the results, too, can be as surprising.

Some of you may question the decision of your j2Exco but i urge you to trust their judgement. They have been o-b-s-e-r-v-i-n-g since God knows when. Moreover, I don't believe in zero disagreement amongst your j2Exco members and I trust that they would have to reason their way out in order to substantiate their individual choices, which were eventually combined and compromised to form your new Exco. There is no way any decision can be accepted in the course of the elections without supporting reasons so please be assured that everything is taken very seriously and each decision can only exist when a strong reason for it exists.

As for those not elected, I understand your disappointment and it is okay if you have cried over it or even locked yourselves in the toilet because of it (o.0). It's a personal way of venting your unhappiness or disappointment or angst and I respect that. I do not think it means u're weak or anything of that sort. However, if you take this as the ending point of your commitment to M.A.D., I will not hesitate to label you something mean (I just erased the words coz i thought they sounded overly mean haha). It means even more for a non-Exco member to take the initiative to contribute to M.A.D. and to provide his/her visions. It shows that you really care. Of course, no Exco member has the right to dismiss any constructive advice/arguments/ideas etc. given by the rest of M.A.D. Being an Exco member simply means u have to make sure everyone's ok. Being IN M.A.D. means you have to help to ensure that M.A.D.'s ok. No exceptions.

From what I've observed during Mosaic '07, I feel that you guys are a fortunate bunch, full of vive and enthusiasm. I am really proud of your j2 seniors and I look forward to seeing you guys lead M.A.D. Every senior batch feels apprehensive about leaving the load behind, that is why it will definitely try its best to pick the finest combination of juniors that will lead the rest in the next year. Have faith in ur seniors and yourselves, alrightey?

Yeah, have faith and have fun =) Dance and M.A.D. are what all of us have in common, so let that be the driving force.

bu chong!

okok i'm sorry if that prev entry sounded a bit straightforward/harsh/inconsiderate. i mean it's far from tt reason why i took the time to type all that was cuz i'm damn scared some of you will take it too hard!

i don't say "oh it's okay you were great.." cuz i think some of you need more than superficial comfort la. so objective was let you all know - many factors came into play, don't get too affected by it. and i hope with the extended elaboration you all better understand what the procedure was, and can find some kinda logical comfort/solace, or find ways to better your situation. and don't draw additional artificial divisions btwn non-exco and exco! give as much as you were giving, don't hold back, just dance for yourself and MAD, contribute whatever you want to, MAD could rock even more cuz of you.

to the zibei ones: maybe you were good, but smone was a bit better; maybe you lacked smth, but so do some of e ppl in exco! don't emo too much k. joined MAD to dance. and you still can dance. as much as you want =)

think all the seniors are very touched so many of you ran, gave so much, and it really pains us to see you all emoing/crying. so don't!! everyone, exco or not, must make dance night next year really big and invite *cough*alumni*cough* to come back yea? MAD jiao1 gei3 ni3 men2 le

back to mugging =)

elections --> handover

heyy madders. okay so election results are out, and apparently a lot of people are upset/disappointed in themselves for not getting it blabla. it's become very all or nothing to some people who're running. like non exco = nothing to do = loser." to the seniors it's really quite O.O cuz to us it's like !? i'd be sad, but not so.. much. this has become more intense than expected la basically

to keep things in perspective. an analogy: everyone's walking forward on their two feet, but we chose this ten people to give wheels/rollerblades. but they can't go that much ahead cuz we still are one group. their job is really to sometimes wheel ahead to check out the route then comeback, or wheel around the group to make sure everyone's fine. they're not supposed to race ahead in front of everyone. if they are then something's wrong. and as for the crowd, only on their two feets, you are still walking ahead. it's when you stupidly think, ohomgihavenowheelsi'msoscrewed, that you sit down, and you really become useless.

and you're not. and by next year you'll probably be one of the 60-70 people out of a 70-80 group of people who're not in exco. you are not in the minority. and you were competing with around 30 other people. shouldn't it be more comforting knowing that you faced so much competition, so it's not that bad if you didn't get it? you cld've come so close to it. but just lost out to slightly stronger competition. don't be too upset!

another point to note about the way we picked exco - some things may seem kinda O.o or controversial even, but seriously, trust us. we thought deep and hard, and it went far beyond "who's good" and "who's responsible", to "who has a vision. who can do that extra." and even more so, "who can work well with who. who will clash with who." scenarios:

1. you could be veryvery responsible and well-liked, but didn't get in because you're more happygolucky, didn't have that very clear idea of what you want for MAD. perhaps you didn't display that kinda greater insight/larger perspective. this goes beyond eg:hiphop, to think about modern/break; or even beyond MAD, to realize how we fit into the school - are we too loud / do we use up other people's space / what do we need to improve about our reputation. .. or even beyond MAD and so on. we needed more than just admin-capable people, we needed exco type people who can look at things through a telescope, from farfar away. it's what we were trying to dig out in the interview.

2. you could be very capable and enthusiastic, but didn't get in because you don't work with some people in the group. maybe in a you-will-eat-someone-up way, or in a you-will-be-too-soft-and-eaten-up way. like we can't have two soft-spoken people for division head/coord, cuz how will they command the crowd? or we can't have one domineering, one easygoing, cuz the easygoing one will just be like "oh okay=)" for everything

3. you may think you're really good, passionate, and have what it takes. maybe you don't see why you're not in exco. but perhaps you never showed it in the past few months through your actions, just sitting back on your chair and never really standing up to do something although you can/could. and only now, elections, then you comeup and say "hey i'm actually capable". or perhaps precisely because you displayed so much confidence, sometimes without the "evidence", we thought your self-confidence was a bit too much, and that was precisely the reason why you're not in.

4. or we could reallyreally have wanted you in exco. scored a 98. but someone scored a 99. if that's why i didn't get in i think i'd still be rather glad, even if not happy, and definitelydefinitely not depressed.

5. or hey you are in exco. but actually we do know you have some key weaknesses, or there were even stronger candidates than you. but you're in because you complement someone else, or because you were the next best option after someone else had to be eliminated. but at the same time we see something, which is why you still had a shot at the post, and hey, you got it. don't let it get to your heads either.

6. ..many more

if you wanna know why you're not in, just talk to us. and we'll tell you. thing is this is not a test of only your capability, and definitely not a popularity contest. don't blame the voting. if anything, blame luck. a lot of this was tyco in the sense that it was a very subjective thing. we pulled people together to form a group. we didn't pull the best out of the best and try to mash them all together. it means some people and undeservingly out, but i guess this time, we put MAD before the individual. so some 'sacrifices' were made for a more cohesive group

just trust us to have thought a lot about it, and tried to see strengths/weaknesses in people that perhaps some of you didn't see in others/yourself. if you're perplexed as to why you/someoneelse didn't get in, this could be the reason. we can't overzealously go "HAH we picked a DAMN ZAI exco. cuz we're damn good at picking and hah they're gonna rock". but we can say we thought long and hard about it, and with all our permutations/combinations, this is the one we thought would work best. and we give them our confidence, our trust, to fuel their first steps on their new journey as exco. even if you're not in exco, you're not out of the journey either. if you think we made some wrong choices, or you still want to prove your capabilities, you still can. take it as a challenge. win the respect of your fellow ccamates without having first been given the platform to do so as exco. the doors aren't closed to that, and maybe you'll get what you deserve =)

feels like a gp essay, i have to go mug. SO DO YOU. STOP READING AND THINKING ABOUT ELECTIONS AND GET THROUGH WITH YOUR BLOCKS. byebye. =D

ohoh this entry was more directed to those who're slightly indignant/disappointedinthemselves about this. for those who are plainly and simply sad - to quote audrey-the-mini-great: "We joined MAD to dance, not to get into exco. :)"
