Happy New Year

I shall begin with a public service announcement.

If you didn't know already, our hiphop IC of 06-07, Alicia has been nominated for the inter-JC pageant. You can click on the above link, go register for an account, and then vote for her. Voting is free and you can vote multiple times, which is such a lousy system because it means the person may get the most votes because someone can devote so much time to click for him/her. Or someone could hack easily and submit multiple votes to their databases. Whatever. Okay anyway just vote ya? It seems more fair that more people vote instead of a few just clicking away...

---

Now I will move on to MAD as a whole. HELLO JUNIORS it has been great knowing all of you and you guys and girls have been wonderful in helping our CCA elevate in status. As a senior who managed to roughly survive her last year of JC, I shall attempt to give you advice on how to spend your J2 year. It's all simple advice really, I bet all of you will stone me for giving you stupid obvious advice but here goes...

1) PLEASE ATTEND YOUR DANCE TRAINING.
I was at the hiphop workshop last Sat and I'm sorry to say that attendance was pathetic. I ALWAYS see the same people about (which is good for them, I must say the lot of you have IMPROVED. VASTLY.) Don't be an irritating black sheep that people wanna slap cause you don't turn up for practices and then cause a lot of problems with integration into the item or not knowing your steps. I'm sorry to put the pressure on you all, but I think the audience for Dance Night will have higher expectations this year, and you need to keep up to your reputation.

Hiphoppers, please. When you all get a hiphop instructor next year, (eh eh who is it going to be ah? Personally I still like An An but if she's expensive then...) YOU HAVE TO BE MORE DISCIPLINED. Turn up, for starters. Don't give the instructor a bad impression that MAD dancers are lazy or whatever. Listen to your instructor, and when you have problems with choreography make sure you ASK. I've seen both Shar and An An, and I think both of them are a bit fast (for me at least). They seem the kind who will go on and on unless you stop them and clarify.

The only valid reasons for you not to attend training is if you are sick, have family problems, or have lessons (which I uh often ponned last time but please don't follow my footsteps unless you're absolutely sure you can get away with it and can catch up). No such thing as my good friend birthday today, although if your family has a lot of events which your father might kill you for not going for then maybe yea you can miss training.

2) Practice. Again and again and again.
This goes especially for dancers with less confidence, like me, who is often falling behind for dance steps. If you have to stay back an extra hour to practice a body roll like me please do it. There's no shame and you have friends to help you. You are all great dancers. So take it a bit further from great dancing for items to superb coordination and overall feel. Even simple stuff like formation change should be practiced more often for better flow. If you have props for your dance, make sure you get the props as early as possible (not like our hats and sticks which we got rather late and hence were not used to) When you're done practicing until you can remember everything by reflex, work on expressions! It's something we seniors never really did so well but I'm sure you guys can do better. Expressions are important, looking at the audience is also important.

3) Enjoy yourself.
I'm stating the obvious. But there will be times at 9pm after hours of lessons you have hours of dance practice and this has been going on probably for weeks. There will almost definitely be times you feel like breaking down, and for the seniors, I think most of us were totally behind schoolwork and were worried about our A levels. But trust me. When you get down to studying for the A levels (usually after dance night the proper mugging begins), you will wish for the late night tiring dance sessions once more. So please please please ENJOY DANCING. Tell yourself you're exercising your body so that it'll become stronger. Also - drink lots of water. Stay healthy. Sleep during lectures if you are tired (ok maybe not that, but do get sleep where possible) If you worry about schoolwork, get MAD help sessions, like share resources/notes/homework so that everybody can get through the dance night season together.

Eh I sound like some old lady... It's so late now and I'm sleeeeeepy... almost midnight. WAIT IT IS MIDNIGHT. My pretty phone is displaying fireworks. HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE.
