PLS READ.

some things do not have basis for comparison; some things do.
you can't compare the number, you can't compare the culture, you can't compare the history.
because history is what brews culture and number is the fruits of culture.

i can't remeber who but i think a few asked me why rj has so many dance talents. i said it's their culture. not seeing the link, they asked again, but why all of them are so impressive? well, i said, it's the culture which attracts the talents there. in other words, what builds up culture? talent and passion. what cultivates talents? culture and passion.
it's like the chicken and egg question. it's hard to tell which one comes first, but there's no doubt they belong together.

6 years ago i watched rj dance night for the first time (yes i was p6). compared to what rj dance has evolved to today, i'd say they've made big improvement, in terms of prestige and almost everything else. how many years have they taken? i've no idea.
In 2006, hwachong m.a.d. society organizes its inaugural dance night. first ever. it took much courage and determination to decide on it, and work towards it. it marks a new beginning.

we are the head, not the body. it's always more fatal to injure the head.

what i'm trying to say is, there's no point getting all worried and despondent about it. we are different in dance genres and styles, even with the same item concept we've come up with something that belongs more to us than theirs belong to them, and it is, too, presented in a different style altogether. i think that rj dance is very zai, especially chinese dance. the zaiest break guy was my pri sch classmate for 6 years and i know he's super-duper.
but these aren't my concern. my concern is, how much have they put into their preparation work; how many hours have they spent thinking about their performance and practising out of usual trainings; how much confidence they exude on stage, awing the audience with their energy and intensity.

if one is to just talk and do nothing, he/she is nothing. we often make the mistake of marvelling at others, forgetting to evaluate ourselves and hence remedy the situation.

we have a week left. all i am asking is for all of you to take this dance night more seriously then ever. no more excuses will be entertained. i would not allow people to leave early. tuitions/appointments etc, postpone it, skip it for once in your life. you won't die. it's just one week, one short week. i've made sacrifices myself, and i wouldn't say they are all wise, but i'm not the only one in control right now.

"practise at home" i always say, because i do it myself, and i trust you guys to do it. i can see who has done it and who hasn't, and sometimes i can't help but be very disappointed. i can be practising till 1am in the morning even though i have school the next day; i can be choreographing till 5am and go for dance practice early in the morning. some things don't come naturally many of us have to admit. things are not always as easy as it seems. no one EVER said it was easy. i'm not asking you to do the same, i'm just saying, passion and interest is nothing if you don't put in enough effort; you can find time if you want to.

i hope all of you can understand that being in the dance night exco we j2s have a much heavier workload than most of you, taking care of funds, audio, technical effects, choreography, props, admin work, the script, programme booklet, planning, etcetcetc. we have tutorials and tests, it's all the same.

So for these couple of days before our big day, i Urge all of you to give your ALL, and not hold back. Because if you do, not only do you not do justice to yourself, you are not doing justice to everyone else.

after dance night, let's all go out n havoc.
